6 July 2017 Toastmaster’s Report

Toastmaster: Luan Duong

Our meeting’s theme for the evening was “Don’t wait for a second because”, which was a little ironic as our meeting got off to a delayed start. (Our meeting location was double booked for a solemn wake, so thank you to our Toastmasters for being extremely patient whilst it concluded!)

There was a strong number of Toastmasters in attendance, including a few visitors, despite the cold and wet weather. Our club’s membership numbers continue to go from strength to strength, with another two new members inducted this evening.
With the night’s proceedings underway, our Toastmasters participated in the warm up; an entertaining story developed which was started off by John Le Grand. The grammarian word of the night was “Plethora”, presented by Wendy Lim.

The club hosted four Ice Breaker Speeches this evening. The Ice Breaker Speech is every Toastmaster’s first speech at their club, an introductory presentation about themselves.

Congratulations to Hossein Darvish, Inna Rozhnatovska, Bikram Koirala & AJ Murphy for completing their Ice Breaker Speech, all their speeches were of an exceptional standard especially considering how new they are to Toastmasters. We wish them all well as they start on their Toastmasters journey and present their future speeches.

The Table Topics section of the evening was conducted by Kim Walters. Her topics were broad and general, allowing the impromptu speakers to easily provide a 1-2 minute response.

All speeches were evaluated, as is the usual practice at Toastmasters, providing all speakers constructive feedback on their public speaking skills. The Umms and Errs Report was presented by visitor Melinda Wong, the Hark Master Report was presented by Sze Howe Koh, the Timer Report was given by the Keith Cundale and Nikki Davenport duo and the experienced Paul Hemmings provided a valuable General Valuation. Our new Club President, Matt Griggs, concluded the evening with his inaugural Club Business and Close
