Toastmaster: Sean Gomes
Maylands Toastmasters held its 360th meeting on Thursday, with the theme “My dream is to”. Despite the cold weather keeping a few members away, we had a great meeting, and had the pleasure of 3 guests joining us, being Markus, Neil and Sarah.
Inna Rozhnatovska introduced the word of the evening, being ‘ameliorate’, which was used often throughout the evening. Wendy Lim warmed us up before we got underway with the first speech given by AJ Murthy on goal-setting (his 3rd speech in a row – AJ is on the fast track!), which was diligently evaluated by Sveta Ostrovsky. Rachel Huynh then introduced the club to a new segment, Who Am I? with the mystery person being boxing great Muhammad Ali.
After the break, we were informed of the dangers of a sedentary lifestyle by Jenny Lim, evaluated by Paul Lim, and entertained by Keith Cundale’s experiences as a S.T.U.D… that is, ‘Spouses Travelling Under Duress… (Smiling)’, of course. Keith’s speech was evaluated by Bikram Koirala, his 1st evaluation for the club. An excellent 1st evaluation.
Sze Howe Koh tested our impromptu speaking skills with table topics, with questions relevantly relating to the evening’s theme of dreams. This was evaluated by Barbara Harrison, before Inna Rozhnatovska let us know how many times the word of the evening was used. Umms and Errs was conducted by Paul Lim, before Thomas French stepped up at the last minute to deliver the Hark Master Report, then Stephen Wilson and Marcus, our guest, jointly presented the Timer Report.
A very comprehensive and thorough General Evaluation was conducted by Luan Duong. Area Director Rachel Huynh also presented an informative and engaging Area Director Address, before the meeting was closed out by the Toastmaster.
A highly enjoyable evening that potentially saw 2 guests come onboard as new members! Stay dry and see you at the next meeting.
